The Radio & Records Album Airplay Top 40 of 1977 (#26. Time Loves A Hero)

Little Feat is one of the lesser known bands from the Seventies. I would call them “boogie rock.” But whatever genre you want to call them, they released their sixth studio album, Time Loves A Hero, in April 1977. The album was produced by the legendary Ted Templeman, who also produced Takin’ It To The Streets by The Doobie Brothers, so you know it’ll be good. Incidentally, Michael McDonald sings backing vocals on “Red Streamliner.”
Sure enough, Time Loves A Hero is groovy as hell. Dare I say it’s damn near a funk album. I can easily imagine Funkadelic performing songs like “Rocket In My Pocket,” “Old Folks Boogie,” and the aforementioned “Red Streamliner.” And if you added a trumpet to the six-and-a-half-minute instrumental “Day At The Dog Races,” it could probably pass for early-Seventies Miles Davis.
Sadly, this was Little Feat’s last studio album before the death of frontman Lowell George. We will get to talk about them more in the future, however. For now, I highly recommend Time Loves A Hero.
